Details

HyClone MEM liquid media supports cell growth in research, upstream process development, and cell culture manufacturing processes.

Minimum essential medium efficacy and homogeneity is tested with Cytiva HyClone sera.
MEM composition includes vitamins, minerals, and amino acids vital to supporting mammalian cell culture and promoting cell growth. There are several MEM media options to support cell culture process development. Formulations of HyClone cell culture MEM media are available with or without L-glutamine. The MEM alpha modification includes the additional components such as non-essential amino acids, ascorbic acid, biotin, vitamin B12, lipoic acid, sodium pyruvate, ribonucleosides and deoxyribonucleosides. Improved MEM, or Richter’s modification, is also available with increased concentrations of certain amino acids, vitamins, and metabolites. In many MEM media formulations, phenol red is added as a pH indicator. All available MEM media contain a sodium bicarbonate buffer with some also containing EBSS to maintain optimal culture pH.

HyClone MEM raw material components are screened through strict quality control testing for lot-to-lot consistency. MEM liquid media products are hydrated using purified water and undergo sterile filtration.

What is MEM cell culture media used for?
MEM media is a versatile cell culture medium used to maintain cell growth for commonly studied cell lines. MEM medium is a more nutrient rich version of basal medium eagle (BME) media designed to meet the nutritional requirements of fibroblasts and HeLa cells and more closely match the protein profile of mammalian cells. The modifications that have been developed since MEM media’s initial formulation expand the use of this cell culture media to support a more expansive selection of both adherent or suspension cell lines including keratinocytes, astrocytes, and human melanoma cells. MEM medium is frequently combined with fetal bovine serum (FBS) as MEM media formulations do not contain the growth factors, proteins, hormones, or lipids needed to promote cell growth.
